Scholastic’s Graphix imprint is bringing the beloved Captain Underpants series to the manga format with the release of Captain Underpants: the First Epic Manga. The reimagined text, penned by a Japanese author, aims to introduce the classic characters to a new audience while retaining the humor and spirit of the original books.
The artist behind the manga expressed their gratitude for the opportunity,highlighting the joy they found in drawing the characters and their hope that the new format will be enjoyed by many children and families. They shared their positive experience working with the Japanese author and their deep thankfulness for the series.
Scholastic describes Captain Underpants: the First Epic Manga as a story that blends humor and action with themes of empowerment and empathy. It follows the adventures of best friends George Beard and Harold Hutchins and their superhero creation, Captain Underpants.
This release is part of Scholastic’s Graphix imprint’s ongoing effort to publish colored manga titles for middle grade readers. Earlier this year, the imprint also released the Unico graphic novel series, along with Hikaru in the Light, Mecha-Ude: Mechanical Arms, and Shadow Warrior: A Spider-Man Manga.
