Seattle Mariners Fall too Rays in Tense matchup
teh Seattle Mariners were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays in a closely contested game, with the Rays securing a victory thanks to a strong pitching performance and timely hitting. The Mariners struggled to generate consistent offense, leaving numerous runners on base throughout the contest.
Randy Arozarena was a radiant spot for the Mariners, reaching base and scoring their lone run in the fourth inning after singling and stealing second base. Jorge Polanco drove him in with a single to right field. Though, the Mariners’ offense faltered in crucial situations, striking out 11 times and finishing 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
A key moment came in the fourth inning after Polanco’s RBI single. Dominic Canzone singled and Ben Williamson walked to load the bases, putting the potential go-ahead run at the plate. Though, Rays pitcher Severino induced a ground ball from Cole Young to end the threat.
Arozarena continued his impressive season, achieving his fifth consecutive 20-home run and 20-stolen base season. At 30 years old, he is now tied with Mike Trout for third most 20/20 seasons in American League history, trailing only Alex Rodriguez (six) and José Ramírez (seven). Ramírez is the only other player in MLB to have accomplished this feat in each of the last five seasons.
The Mariners will look to even the series on Wednesday when Bryan Woo (8-5, 2.91 ERA) takes the mound against the Rays’ Jeffrey Springs (9-7, 4.13).
