Despite rising matcha prices due to high demand and limited supply, a prominent matcha coffee shop chain anticipates a potential price decrease in the future, though not in the immediate term.
Masahiro Nagata, co-founder of Matcha Tokyo, expressed to the BBC that the current market, where low-quality matcha is sold at inflated prices, is unsustainable. “At this time there is a boom and the demand is growing rapidly, but we believe it will calm down a little in two or three years,” Nagata stated, suggesting that the current pricing model for inferior matcha will eventually become unviable.
