Israel Cabinet Seeks to Dismiss Attorney General


the special cabinet committee, led by Minister of Diaspora Affairs Amichai Chikli, has unanimously recommended the government dismiss Attorney General Gali baharav-Miara.

This significant recommendation is slated for discussion and a vote at the upcoming government meeting next Sunday.

Earlier today, Baharav-Miara responded to statements made by Judge Noam Solberg, who ruled that an interim order was not necessary at this stage for petitions concerning her dismissal.In her official response to the Supreme Court, she asserted that the process should be halted immediately.

Baharav-Miara requested that the court expedite the judicial review of the decision, urging it not to permit the government to advance what she termed an “unlawful process” to a cabinet discussion before a ruling on the essential legality of changing dismissal rules for the Attorney General.

She further articulated her concerns, stating, “The situation, where the government has been advancing, step by step, an obviously unlawful procedure for terminating the tenure of the Attorney General for five weeks, is leading to accumulating institutional damage to the office of the Attorney General and to the public service as a whole.” She added that the mere progression of this process, regardless of its eventual outcome,
