A Brussels resident allegedly received social benefits and occupied social housing while practicing as a lawyer in Morocco as 2003. The situation surfaced following a report from her former partner to the National Institute for Sickness and Invalidity Insurance (RIZIV).
The ex-partner reportedly discovered the woman’s registration as a lawyer with the Moroccan bar for over two decades, suggesting her family resides there. She is said to have visited Belgium only sporadically for brief periods, primarily for medical or administrative purposes. This occurred while she had been registered as disabled in Belgium as 2016, potentially entitling her to increased health insurance allowances, an invalidity benefit, and the use of social housing in the capital. Moreover, official records from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation indicate her children were never enrolled in Belgian schools.
