Gambling Addiction Tears Family Apart: Malaysian Man’s Heartbreaking confession
A Malaysian man has shared a deeply personal and tragic account of how his crippling gambling addiction led too the loss of his wife and young child. In a poignant submission to the Facebook page XUAN, he detailed the devastating consequences of his actions, a story that serves as a stark warning about the destructive power of addiction.
The man confessed that his gambling habit was the direct cause of his wife filing for divorce. Now living alone, he described the crushing emptiness of his days, returning to an empty home and finding solace only in old family photos. “Every day after work, I come home and stare at the four walls, open my phone and look at old photos of our family of three, and my heart aches as if it’s being torn apart. I can barely sleep at night,” he wrote, his words echoing a profound sense of loss and regret.
His addiction had consumed his savings, leading him to take out loans and max out his credit cards. In a devastating betrayal of trust, he admitted to secretly accessing his wife’s savings and stock investment accounts to fuel his habit. He managed to hide this for six months before confessing, at which point his wife, in an act of immense grace, chose to forgive him and even helped him clear RM100,000 in credit card debt.
However, this act of forgiveness did not mend the fractured foundation of thier marriage. His financial situation continued to deteriorate, forcing his wife to shoulder the majority of the household expenses. The trust between them had been irrevocably broken, and even his positive actions were met with skepticism.”If I made even a small mistake, it would be magnified; even if I did something right, it was just ‘what you should have done’,” he recounted.
The final blow came when he relapsed, gambling away his wife’s savings once more. This time, his confession was met with a swift decision. His wife, unable to bear the repeated betrayal, filed for divorce. Despite his pleas for another chance, she remained resolute, stating she could no longer trust someone who had repeatedly broken her trust. “She said she had no reason to hold on anymore,” he shared, the weight of his actions finally dawning on him. “It was only then that I truly woke up.Why did I never think about the consequences when I was gambling? Why did I keep saying my wife and child were everything, yet I personally destroyed this family?”
he expressed deep concern for his wife, who was left to raise their three-year-old child alone. Yet, she firmly asked him to leave, unable to continue living with him. In the aftermath of the separation, he even attempted suicide, believing his death might provide financial relief through compensation. The attempt failed, and he chose not to inform his wife, fearing she would perceive it as a bid for sympathy.
“The only thing I can do now is work hard to pay off my debts, and occasionally see my child,” he stated, grappling with the question of whether to seek his wife’s forgiveness or let her move on to a better life. The online community overwhelmingly sided with his wife, urging him to release her from the burden of his mistakes and warning against the possibility of a third relapse. Comments emphasized the difficulty of overcoming addiction and the importance of allowing his wife the chance for a debt-free and stable future.
