California Parole Agent Joshua Byrd mourned After Tragic Death in Line of duty
California is mourning the loss of Parole Agent Joshua Byrd,who died tragically while serving the state. Governor Gavin Newsom and Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, who is acting governor in newsom’s absence, released a joint statement expressing their profound sorrow.
“Agent Byrd served with integrity and courage – and we’re forever grateful,” the statement read. “We are keeping his family in our prayers and we join the men and women of CDCR in mourning this tragedy.”
Byrd, 40, began his career with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) in 2014. He progressed through roles as a correctional officer and sergeant before joining the department’s Oakland parole office in October.
CDCR Secretary Jeff Macomber stated, “Our hearts are heavy as we remember Parole Agent Joshua Byrd, whose bravery and dedication led to his tragic death in the line of duty.” He extended condolences to the law enforcement community,
