Defying age, **Lau Siew Heh** and **Angeline Teo** completed the demanding fitness race at the National Stadium, inspiring many with their dedication.
A 63-year-old couple from Singapore has become an inspiration after successfully participating in the Hyrox fitness race held at the National Stadium on June 28. The achievement of **Lau Siew Heh** and **Angeline Teo** demonstrates that age is no barrier to physical fitness and determination.
TikTok Video Goes Viral
**Ms. Teo** gained significant attention when her daughter posted a video on TikTok documenting their Hyrox journey. The video, titled “Get Ready with Mum, Hyrox edition,” has garnered over 21,000 views, showcasing moments leading up to, during, and after the intense fitness event. Hyrox combines eight exercises, each separated by a 1km run.
Family Affair: Daughter Shares Details
**Cassandra**, 33, one of their daughters, revealed that her parents completed the race in under two hours. Speaking with *MS News*, **Cassandra** shared insights into her parents’ preparation and how the family supported each other throughout the process.
Overcoming Initial Reluctance
Initially, **Mr. Lau** and **Ms. Teo** were hesitant about participating in Hyrox, according to **Cassandra**. She introduced the idea to them in December of the previous year. It took some persuasion to get them on board.
They began their fitness journey in November 2023 when **Cassandra** helped launch Rx Performance, a gym in Outram, where she also works as a part-time coach. Before joining the gym, the couple only took weekend walks. They started with personal training and eventually joined weekly classes in February.
Community Support Fuels Participation
The couple made friends within the community at Rx Performance, which encouraged them to consider Hyrox. Their initial reluctance gradually turned into curiosity, and they decided to sign up when registration opened in March.
Interestingly, 65% of adults aged 55-75 would be more physically active if they had social support from friends, family, or community programs (National Council on Aging).
Dedicated Training Regimen
**Mr. Lau** and **Ms. Teo** committed to training three to four times per week alongside other gym members also preparing for Hyrox. Their workouts at Rx Performance included strength and conditioning, metabolic conditioning, and skill work like gymnastics and Olympic weightlifting.

**Cassandra** noted that her parents bring so much energy to the class that their age is often forgotten.
Hyrox as a Fitness Milestone
**Cassandra** aimed to give her parents a fitness goal. She believed the Hyrox team relay would be an excellent objective.
The team consisted of **Mr. Lau**, **Ms. Teo**, **Cassandra**’s sister **Kyna**, and a friend named **John**, 31. Each team member completed two stations and ran 2km.

**Cassandra** praised everyone’s performance. Despite her worries, **Ms. Teo** maintained her pace, and they stuck to their plan.

“I think it’s so important for our athletes, no matter what age, to enjoy their fitness journey and to look forward to progress,”
**Cassandra** stated.
Hyrox Triumph and Future Plans
The couple completed their first Hyrox in one hour and 46 minutes. **Cassandra** shared that her parents were thrilled and couldn’t stop talking about their accomplishment.

**Mr. Lau** and **Ms. Teo** credited Rx Performance for their successful preparation and are now motivated to pursue further fitness goals. They plan to participate in next year’s Hyrox and are preparing for their gym’s internal competition in August.
Family Training and Retirement Goals
An Instagram video by Rx Performance featured the **Lau** family as a family that trains together.
“I started fitness very late in life,”
shared **Ms. Teo**. Her curiosity grew as **Cassandra** embarked on her fitness journey. She began to consider her physical well-being and wondered, “I can imagine if one day I fell down, who’s going to pick me up?”
**Mr. Lau** recalled a challenging trek in Hong Kong that motivated them to prioritize their fitness. Seeing their improvement and enjoying the gym community keeps them motivated.
“I’m really looking forward to being healthier and fitter for my retirement years,”
**Ms. Teo** added.
**Cassandra** emphasized the importance of recognizing that dreams are not exclusive to the younger generation. She highlighted how parents often sacrifice their own aspirations to support their children. She added, “It’s in the little moments where we observe their actions that we can identify their dreams and be that support for them to rise to the occasion as well.”
