WASHINGTON, D.C. – Georgetown University sophomore alexia Araujo-Dagba is currently in São Paulo,Brazil,training with the Brazilian U19 Women’s National Team as they prepare for the FIBA U19 Women’s basketball World Cup,scheduled to take place in Brno,Czech Republic,from July 12-20. Araujo-Dagba is among the 17 players competing for a final roster spot adn is one of seven collegiate athletes on the provisional team.
Araujo-Dagba’s journey to the World Cup
The Brazilian U19 team has been engaged in intensive training in São Paulo since mid-June. Before heading to the Czech Republic, the team will travel to Croatia on July 6 for kind matches on July 8 and 9. The World Cup will see Brazil compete in Group C against formidable opponents including australia, France, and Mali.
Brazil secured its place in the tournament after finishing fourth in the 2024 U18 Copa américa, marking their second consecutive qualification. The team previously triumphed at the U17 South American championship in Bucaramanga,Colombia,in 2023.

During her freshman year at Georgetown, Araujo-Dagba played in 24 games, averaging 2.1 points and 1.8 rebounds. She recorded a double-double in her debut game, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
