UK injects £380 Million to Supercharge Entertainment Sector,Aiming for Global creative Dominance
London,UK – June 24,2025 – The UK government has unveiled a ample £380 million investment package designed to bolster and expand its thriving entertainment sector. This initiative encompasses film, television, music, video games, and cutting-edge entertainment technology, signaling a commitment to solidify the UK’s position as a “global creative superpower.”
The largest portion of the funding, £75 million, is earmarked for the booming film industry, which has seen a surge in major productions filming within the UK. Music receives a notable £30 million, while £25 million will fuel research into innovative entertainment technologies – including advancements like AI-driven avatars, exemplified by the ABBA project. A dedicated £30 million “Games Fund” will support newly established video game companies, though questions remain regarding the scale of impact given the high costs of game advancement.
Beyond London, the investment aims for broader national impact. £150 million will be distributed across northern England, specifically targeting Manchester, Liverpool, the West Midlands, West Yorkshire, the Northeast, and the West of England.
According to the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport, this plan aims to nearly double business investments in the sector by 2035, increasing from £17 billion to £31 billion [LBC]. The government anticipates the creation of thousands of new jobs across film, TV, music, performing arts, and visual arts as a result of this investment.
This funding builds upon existing support for the entertainment industry, with grants available for small businesses in the entertainment sector [[1]]. The British film Institute and Creative England also offer funding and support for film and television projects [[3]]. The broader media and entertainment sector is projected to contribute an additional £10 billion annually to the UK economy by 2033, contingent on continued investment in skills, innovation, and infrastructure [[2]].
