Israeli Strikes Target Tehran, Raising Regional Tensions
Evin Prison Hit Amidst Escalating Conflict
Recent strikes by Israel on Tehran have significantly escalated regional tensions. The attacks, including one on the notorious Evin prison, have drawn international condemnation and raised concerns about civilian casualties and the safety of detainees. The situation remains volatile, with further escalation possible.
Evin Prison Under Attack
According to Iran’s judiciary, Israel struck the Evin prison in Tehran, causing damage to the facility. The Mizan news agency reported the situation was “under control” after the attack, which Iran claims violates international law. State TV footage revealed first responders transporting a casualty and searching for survivors amidst the destruction of a building.
Israeli military also said on Monday that it had struck access routes to the Fordo uranium enrichment plant, which is south of the capital. It came a day after US aircraft dropped “bunker-busting” bombs on the underground facility.
“Deliberately attacking civilian objects is prohibited under international humanitarian law and would amount to a war crime,”
— Amnesty International
The conflict comes as the Middle East sees the highest levels of violence in recent years. Data indicates that regional instability has led to a 40% increase in civilian deaths since 2023 (Council on Foreign Relations, 2025).
Broader Implications
The Israeli military also targeted access routes to the Fordo uranium enrichment plant. These actions followed a US airstrike, where “bunker-busting” bombs were used on the underground facility. Simultaneously, Iranian ballistic missiles struck different locations in Israel, including an industrial area near a power station.

The international community expressed deep concerns about the strikes. Jean-Noel Barrot, France’s foreign minister, described the attack on the prison as “unacceptable” because it endangered the lives of two French citizens incarcerated there. Former Evin detainee Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe said that the strike made her feel “sick.”
