Hit-and-Run Leaves Two Pedestrians Injured, Dog Missing in Auckland
Search Intensifies for Luna After Paremoremo Road Incident
A Sunday morning walk in Paremoremo turned tragic when a white ute allegedly struck two pedestrians, leaving one woman seriously injured and a family desperately searching for their missing dog. Police are appealing for information to locate the vehicle and its driver.
Details of the Collision
Emergency services responded to Attwood Rd around 7:10 a.m. after receiving reports of the incident. St John Ambulance transported two patients to nearby hospitals: one woman in serious condition to Auckland City Hospital, and another in moderate condition to North Shore Hospital. Sergeant Jason Cleeton stated that the ute sustained noticeable damage during the crash.
Witness Mitchell Prouse described a scene of chaos, arriving barefoot after receiving the distressing news. I chucked some shorts and a shirt on and just ran out of the door barefoot; I didn’t even think to get the car.
he recounted.
The Search for Luna
The pair, who have walked the route with their dogs for nearly two decades, were reportedly on the white line when the vehicle struck. Prouse’s mother suffered several broken ribs, a lacerated liver, and lower spinal fractures. His mother and her friend, Sue, were both hit by the vehicle, which then fled the scene.
While Sue’s dog is receiving intensive veterinary care, the Prouse family’s dog, a Huntaway cross named Luna, remains missing. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, approximately 10 million dogs and cats are lost or stolen in the United States each year, highlighting the distress of losing a pet. Community Response and Police Appeal
The local community has rallied to assist in the search for Luna, with residents continuing to search the area even after Mitchell Prouse returned from the hospital. I was away until about 1.30ish, and by the time I got back, there were still people walking the streets.
he said.
Police are urging anyone with information regarding the vehicle, its driver, or the incident itself to come forward. There’s only around 200 houses down here, someone knows where this vehicle came from. If you’ve left at around 7 in the morning, you either live here or you were here last night.
Prouse pleaded.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 105.
