Houston, Texas, is the focus of a month-long public education initiative emphasizing the severe consequences of illegal firearm purchases.The “Don’t Lie for the Other Guy” campaign, now in its 25th year, is a collaborative effort between the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the department of Justice (DOJ).The campaign aims to deter straw purchases,where individuals illegally buy firearms for others who are prohibited from owning them.

The Houston-area campaign is projected to generate over 45.8 million media impressions through a multi-faceted approach:

  • Outdoor Advertising: 45 high-impact billboards and posters throughout Houston. the message: “Buy a gun for someone who can’t and buy yourself 15 years in jail. Don’t Lie for the Other Guy.”
  • Radio: Over 400 radio spots on two top FM stations.
  • Digital: 3.75 million targeted impressions across Facebook, Instagram, and mobile display.
