The Health Department has started this autumn’s vaccination campaign in the Alt Pirineu and Aran regions, which is carried out jointly against flu viruses and Covid-19 for the most vulnerable population. These are around 780 people who live in the territory’s fifteen nursing, disability and mental health homes and around 460 who receive home care and who will be able to get the vaccine over the next three weeks. The campaign started this Thursday in the nursing homes in Pobla de Segur and PuigcerdĂ and will continue on Friday in La Seu de Urgell and Tremp. It will progressively be extended to the rest of the centers until October 16, when it is opened to the rest of the at-risk population.
The first person vaccinated was Carme CasamajĂł, who did so at the Center GeriĂ tric Residència del Pirineu de la Pobla de Segur. In his case, he has said that he has chosen to be immunized because he has “a very extended family” and considers that he has to protect himself. “I have always been vaccinated against the flu and so, when I have had it, it has been very mild. Therefore, today I am getting both vaccines,” he indicated.
On the other hand, Laia MartĂ, reference for residences at the Servei d’AtenciĂł PrimĂ ria (SAP) Lleida Nord, has argued that “now that the covid has normalized and that there is a lot of population immunity” they are trying to get the two vaccines because ” “Two weeks are necessary for immunity to be effective, just coinciding with the arrival of the cold.”
