Saudi Arabia Implements Stricter Rules for Car Window Tinting
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – In an effort to bolster road safety and regulate car window tinting, the General Traffic Department in Saudi Arabia has announced a series of stringent regulations. Drivers found in violation of these rules could face fines ranging from 500 to 900 Saudi riyals. More severe penalties, including imprisonment, may be imposed depending on the infraction, according to official announcements.
Laws Apply Even to Parked Vehicles
The new regulations are noteworthy because they extend beyond moving vehicles. According to lawyer and Saudi content creator Ziad Al-Shaalan, a traffic officer is authorized to issue a tinting violation even if the car is parked.
Traffic violations do not require that the car be in a state of movement.

Al-shaalan explained in a video clip that this policy reflects the General Management’s commitment to enforcing the laws consistently.
Permitted tinting Levels
The General Traffic Department specifies that acceptable tinting levels vary based on the vehicle type. However, the maximum permitted tint is 30%. The materials used must be obvious enough to ensure clear visibility. Tinting the windshield is strictly prohibited to maintain unobstructed vision while driving.
Rationale Behind the Strict Enforcement
These stricter measures align with the Kingdom’s broader efforts to improve road safety. Excessive window tinting can substantially impair visibility, increasing the likelihood of accidents. Furthermore, these laws aim to curb the use of illegal tinting, which can impede security operations or facilitate unlawful activities.
