About 90 vehicles and carcasses of cars awaiting depollution caught fire during the night from Monday to Tuesday (November 2 to 3) at the “New Formula” car scrapyard in Lamentin. An investigation has been opened into the origin of the incident.
A fire affected part of the car scrapyard “New formula” of the Sarrault district in Lamentin, in the night from Monday to Tuesday. 90 cars, some of which were awaiting depollution, were set on fire.
The fire broke out at 2 a.m. Fortunately the firefighters arrived quickly and the fire was contained after 2 hours of fighting, at 4 am.
Open investigation
The site has 400 cars and carcasses. The cars that burned were in a fairly partitioned area. A police investigation was immediately opened to determine the causes of the incident.
A few weeks ago, at the end of September, it was another wreckage that suffered the ravages of the fire. A hundred vehicles had burned at the Arcole junkyard, in the area of La Lézarde in Lamentin. There too, an investigation was opened into the origin of the fire.
