They agreed the new regime was the perfect time to start from scratch, with the departure of several players seen as key to the overhaul Ten Hag is looking to make at Old Trafford.
The large number of high-paid players who are out of contract, with Pogba being one of them, has helped in the rejuvenation of the Ten Hag squad.
The departure of these players will relieve Man United’s salary, so they are more free to maneuver in a market that is likely to be their busiest summer transfer market in recent years.
They are close to agreeing to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona, while Feyenoord have already accepted their £13m offer for Tyrell Malacia.
Christian Eriksen, who is without a club, has also been offered a contract.
Ajax star Antony is a prime target up front, with team-mate Lisandro Martinez one of the names Ten Hag is considering filling in at centre-back alongside Villarreal’s Pau Torres. Ten Hag also admires Inter Milan’s right-back, Denzel Dumfries.
