Bandar Lampung (Lampost.co) – The Indonesian Dialysis Patient Community (KPCDI) said that chronic kidney disease (CKD) is still a scourge as the deadliest disease in the world.

General Chairperson of KPCDI, Tony Richard Samosir, said that nine out of 10 people in the world were listed as patients after doctors sentenced them to be part of CKD.

“Unfortunately, nine out of 10 people are late in realizing that they are in danger, those who do not know have kidney failure due to lack of literacy and education,” he said when he was a speaker at a public health seminar on CKD, Thursday, March 10, 2022.

According to him, real work and collaboration are needed to provide kidney health education for the community. This is because CKD has an impact on social life such as limited work, education, finances, lifestyle changes, and social activities which will result in the poor quality of patient health.

“For this reason, communication and education approaches are needed to improve the quality of life of patients, build strength strategies and efforts to manage stress so that they are useful when experiencing difficulties and trauma when starting dialysis,” he said.

Besides that, Tony hopes all stakeholder to ensure that discrimination and gaps in the health care system also need to be identified, so that all patients are given the opportunity to have a voice.

“For example, many chronic kidney patients who suffer from COVID-19 are not accepted by the hospital to undergo the dialysis process. This reduces the quality of life and can threaten the safety of the patient’s life,” he said.
