87 percent yes-votes: Clear the way for the renovation of the Vorstadt – Solothurn Stadt – Solothurn school complex

Some school buildings in the city of Solothurn are in need of renovation. The Vorstadt school complex is no exception and will now be renewed next. The majority of those entitled to vote, who cast their vote in the vote on Sunday, clearly approved the loan of CHF 15.2 million for the overall renovation of the Vorstadt school complex and for the extension of the triple kindergarten. 5149 yes-votes were compared to 756 no-votes. The approval was therefore a strong 87 percent. This with a turnout of 52.7 percent on this proposal.

The work will therefore begin in spring and will be carried out in several stages and should be completed by autumn 2024. Thanks to these stages, school operations can be maintained, with four classes using the extension building as a temporary measure during the renovation of the school wing (2nd construction phase) and two classes being taught in the Brühl school building.

The poor condition of the building requires renovation

The construction costs for the project are estimated at CHF 16.1 million. Of this, loans in the amount of CHF 900,000 had already been approved. In addition, a pre-financing of 10 million francs could be formed from the surpluses of the last few years.

The overall renovation was necessary due to the poor condition of the building. In addition, the school complex no longer meets the legal requirements with regard to fire protection and earthquake safety. With the extension of the kindergarten, renovation of the Dreibeinskreuz and Wassergasse kindergartens can be dispensed with. According to the city, renovating these makes no economic sense.
