The Crisis Center and the FPS Public Health released new figures on the spread of the coronavirus in Belgium on Thursday.

No press conference this Thursday for the Crisis Center and the SPF Health but the ritual of the daily assessment does not change. New figures on the evolution of the coronavirus epidemic in Belgium were released a day after the announcement of new measures for progressive deconfinement.
Here’s the bottom line. This Wednesday, May 6, 639 new cases were reported. 374 patients live in Flanders, 157 in Wallonia and 101 in Brussels. We have no information regarding the place of residence of the last 7 people. The total number of confirmed cases is 51,420.
The situation is as follows:
– A total of 2,688 patients are currently hospitalized. 98 new hospitalizations have been recorded in the last 24 hours.
– A total of 538 patients are in intensive care, a decrease of 116 patients in the last 24 hours.
– 12,980 patients were discharged from the hospital and were declared cured since March 15, an increase of 244 in the last 24 hours.
– 8,415 deaths in total have been reported, an increase of 80 deaths in the last 24 hours. Of the deaths in the past 24 hours, 37 have occurred in hospital, 43 in a nursing home. In this last group, 74% was confirmed by a COVID-19 test.
– Of the 8,415 people who died, 48% died in hospital, 51% in a nursing home, 0.3% at home and 0.4% elsewhere. Hospital deaths are all confirmed cases. The deaths which took place in nursing homes concern confirmed cases (19%) or suspected cases (81%).
