The number of fatalities in Portugal due to the new coronavirus has increased to 1,455, which translates into an increase of 8 deaths compared to yesterday, when 1,447 were counted, announced the General Directorate of Health (DGS) this Thursday, June 4.

The number of infected (confirmed cases) increased 1% to 33,592, which represents 331 new cases in 24 hours. Yesterday an increase of 1.11% to 33,261 had been announced, which was the strongest since May 8.

There is a slight descent in the growth rate of the number of infected (1% against 1.11% yesterday). In absolute terms, the number of new cases also dropped (331 against 366 yesterday). Despite the decline, this is the second day in a row with more than 300 cases, which has not happened since the end of May.

More than 309 cases in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region

In the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley (LVT) there were 309 new cases (against 335 yesterday), which represents 93% of the total cases in the country.

Although the total numbers point to only 26 cases outside the region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, in the geographical distribution by municipality there is an increase of 40 cases in the municipality of Porto. Note that the reporting of data by municipality is often delayed compared to the total for the country.

Porto now records 1,401 cases, once again overcoming Sintra (which remains with 1,400).

Taking into account the number of infected and fatal victims, the fatality rate is 4.33%, the second day in a slight fall.

With regard to recovered patients, there are now 20,323 cases, 244 more than reported yesterday (19,869).

Although the number of recovered people has increased, the number of active cases increased by the second day to 11,814, which represents about 35% of the total cases.

According to the DGS daily bulletin, there are 801 dead in the North (more than half of the total), 383 in the region of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, 240 in the center and 15 in the Algarve. The Azores have 15 deaths, Alentejo has 1 death and Madeira remains without mortal victims to mourn.
