70 Percent of Earth’s Surface Is Covered with Water

Earth is the fifth largest planet in the solar system and it is the only planet in the solar system with liquid water on the surface.

Earth is only slightly larger than Venus and is the largest of the four planets closest to the Sun all made of rock and metal.

Many orbiting spacecraft study Earth from above as a single system, observing the atmosphere, oceans, glaciers, and dense Earth.

Earth’s atmosphere protects living things from incoming meteoroids, most of which break up in our atmosphere before they can reach Earth’s surface.
This atmosphere is made up of 78 percent nitrogen, 21 percent oxygen and 1 percent other materials, the perfect balance for breathing and living.

This planet orbiting the Sun is the third planet from the Sun with a distance of about 93 million miles (150 million km). A day on Earth is 24 hours and the Earth makes a complete orbit around the Sun (a year in Earth time) in about 365 days.
