Kagri Kilik, a researcher on the lunar and Mars rover at the University of West Virginia in the United States, said: “Excluding 3 tons, which is the weight of the spacecraft and the 10-ton rovers currently in operation, which is the mass of all spacecraft launched to Mars, the remaining 7 tons are garbage on the remains of Mars, “he said.
The debris currently discovered on the surface of Mars are parts that have been removed as unnecessary, spacecraft that have stopped working, and fragments of spacecraft that have fallen from the impact.
Mars debris is also often found by NASA’s Perseverance rover. NASA posted on its official Twitter account in June that “our team found something we weren’t expecting” and posted pictures of the trash found on Mars.
According to NASA, “Earth debris could contaminate Mars samples collected by the rover or collide with the rover, causing equipment failure.”
Experts are also concerned about the abundance of man-made garbage on Mars, a space that humans have not yet stepped on.
