“There’s a lot of specific material content in skincare (cleanser, toner, moisturizer) that can be used for acne-prone skin,” said Edwin Tanihaha, a dermatologist and genital specialist, in CNNIndonesia.com via short message, Tuesday (7/9).

The use of products with the following ingredients needs to be adjusted to the level of skin sensitivity and the concentration of the ingredients in the product.

Here are seven skincare ingredients for acne-prone skin.

1. Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid or salicylic acid (beta-hydroxy acid / BHA) is able to remove the top layer of dead skin cells. BHA will penetrate deep into the pores so that it can clear the blockage.

As reported Insider, dermatologist Teo Soleymani, says BHA can reduce the number and size of blackheads (blackheads). It also helps reduce excess oil on the face so as to prevent new pimples from forming.

Usually BHA is found on cleanser, toner, serum and moisturizer. For mild formulations, BHA can be used daily. However, keep an eye on the effect on the skin and adjust the frequency of use.

2. Retinol

Retinol is a derivative of vitamin A. Usually retinol is relied on to reduce the appearance of signs of aging. But apparently this one ingredient is also useful for dealing with acne.

Retinol is able to erode dead skin cells that are at risk of clogging pores. In addition, retinol also reduces the size of blackheads and helps regenerate skin cells.

If you are considering using retinol, it is highly recommended to start small and not apply it every day. Then it is recommended to use retinol for skin care at night because its use makes the skin more sensitive to sunlight.

Also adjust to skin conditions because in some people, retinol can cause redness, itching, and dryness.

3. Azaleic acid

Azelaic acid or azaleic acid is naturally obtained from the acid in grains including wheat, barley, rye. according to HealthlineAzaleic acid has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties so it is effective in treating acne and rosacea skin conditions.

Azeleic acid will work by cleaning pores, reducing inflammation and promoting cell regeneration, thus accelerating the recovery of acne prone skin.

If using a product containing azaleic acid, it is recommended not to use it with astringents or products with exfoliating ingredients. Astringents usually contain alcohol, witch hazel, citric acid and salicylic acid (BHA).
