7 Habits That Make Millennials Easily Stuck and Stress

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

It’s no secret, pressure and stress often hit millennials who are now of productive age. Not only because professionbut there are some habits that make stress often done.

Psychologist Loren Soeiro said that stress is closely related to the millennial generation. In fact, as many as 17 percent of them experience depression and 14 percent experience anxiety. Compared to previous generations, millennials are more likely to seek the help of a psychologist or counselor.

“Money is one of the many concerns of millennials. Most of them have difficulty finding work, are still living with their parents or have serious worries about making enough money to live on their own,” Soeiro said in his writing on Psychology Today.

So that stress does not continue to rage, millennials should avoid the following habits. Without realizing it, this series of habits is generally prone to causing stress.

1. Stay up late

Lack of sleep contributes to stress and anxiety. As quoted from ForbesA study by the University of California at Berkeley found that lack of sleep can affect areas of the brain associated with excessive anxiety.

2. Unlock the phone before going to bed

Opening the cellphone before bed is also a habit that makes it easy to stress. A study from Pew Research found that 8 out of 10 millennials admitted to often sleeping with their cellphone on.

Not only that, the cellphone also continues to actively receive messages, phone calls, emails, songs, news, videos, games, to alarms.

This condition makes the body unable to rest optimally so it is vulnerable to stress and anxiety.

“Audiences, especially millennials, use cell phones until they go to sleep. If we use our devices before bed, blue light enters our eyes and the blue spectrum causes a biological response to alertness. Without us knowing it, our bodies are signaling to wake up,” explains Rebecca Robbins , a researcher on sleep, as quoted from Healthline.

3. Work until you lose track of time

The standard of success makes millennials inevitably have to work hard. Income from the main job is often considered insufficient, so there is a need for a side job.

This is exacerbated by the rise of the term ‘hustle culture‘, where there is an assumption that success can only be achieved with unlimited hard work.

In fact, you have to remember, the body has limits and can not always compensate for the mounting responsibilities.

“We may even be tempted to take our work home and finish projects in bed at night. This can create a mental connection between the mattress and work, not the mattress and sleep. Sleep is becoming increasingly difficult,” explains Martin Reed, clinical sleep health expert and founder of Insomnia Coach.
