7 Areas Inundated by Floods Due to Heavy Rain in the Upper Bekasi River

A number of areas in the City Bekasi submerged flood on a Saturday night. Flood occurs due to overflow Bekasi River.

Head of Rehabilitation, Reconstruction BPBD of Bekasi City, Hendra said, there were seven areas in Bekasi that were flooded. The seven areas are Villa Jati Rasa, Nusa Indah, Villa Nusa Indah, Pondok Gede Permai, Kartini, Teluk Pucung and Kemang Ifi.

“There are several points (floods), the first at Villa Jati Rasa, the second at PGP, the third at Pondok Nusa Lestari, the fourth at Kemang Ifi, then in Kartini, Teluk Pucung, this area happens to be a riverbank area,” said Hendra when contacted, Sunday (25/10/2020).

Hendra said, heavy rain in the upstream area caused Bekasi River to be unable to accommodate water discharge. According to him, the upstream of Bekasi River is in Cileungsi and Cikeas.

“(Flood due to overflow) Bekasi River has two upstreams, the upstream is Cileungsi and Cikeas. We are meeting upstream of Cileungsi and Cikeas. This is the rain in the upstream at 16.00 WIB, the water level has started to rise,” he said.

According to him, water began to enter residential areas at 23.30 WIB. Water enters from the levee seepage.

“Yes, the significant one is half 12, because it is seepage from the embankment,” said Hendra.

According to him, the worst floods were in Villa Jati Rasa. Here, the water is about 190 cm high.

“(Villa Jati Rasa) is high (flood) around 190. (Villa Nusa Indah) was 150,” he said.

Hendra said that his party is still recording the number of refugees. “The number of refugees is coincidentally we are data. What is clear is that we are in accordance with the SOP, we prepare a team for evacuation at all points, boats, buoys, for evacuation especially children, women and the elderly, as well as those who are sick are a priority,” added Hendra.
