The US Geological Survey said the quake had a depth of 10 km.

According to the US tsunami warning system, the earthquake was followed by a warning of a possible tsunami in New Caledonia, Fiji and Vanuatu, in the Pacific Ocean.

According to AFP, the tremor was detected at a depth of 37 kilometers and 333.8 kilometers off the coast of Caledonia.

The agency pointed to the Tsunami Warning Center in the Pacific warned of the possibility of a tsunami within a radius of 1000 kilometers around the epicenter.

The center said in a statement, “Based on the preliminary data of the earthquakes, dangerous tsunamis are likely to occur on the coasts located 1,000 km from the epicenter,” according to AFP.

The center urged residents of the threatened coastal areas to exercise caution.
