64 years have passed since the Dyatlov Pass incident. Two studies have revealed important facts

Much of the research surrounding the Dyatlov Pass incident has been concerned with the strange injuries on human remains. Four of the hikers had severe chest or skull injuries, two were missing eyes, one had lost his tongue, and others were naked.

Surprising findings

A 2021 study found that in 1959, after weeks of searching, the frozen bodies of nine missing skiers were found.

A hole had been cut in the tent that the young people had built near the “Mountain of the Dead” in the Urals, and the hurried footprints of bare feet were leading from it, even though it was freezing cold outside.

Half-naked bodies of young people were later found within a radius of over a hundred meters around the camp. Someone had tried to light a fire, another had climbed a tree. The female student, who was found later, had her tongue torn out, while her friend had a crushed chest.

Investigators were surprised when the scene unfolded. The tent on the opposite side of the entrance had been cut open with a knife and abandoned in a great hurry. All the belongings were still in the tent, including the half-eaten dinner and the youth’s clothes.

In April 2013, the publication “Telegraph” described the terrible scene:

“Investigators found the footprints of eight or nine people in the snow. Some had socks on their feet, some had only one shoe or bare feet at all. The footprints led to the nearby forest, but disappeared after 500 meters.

The first two men’s bodies, clad only in their underwear, were found at the edge of the forest, next to the remains of a burnt-out campfire. The next three bodies, including the leader of the group Dyatlov and a woman, were found between the tent and the fire in a position as if they were trying to get back into the tent.
