In the autumn, the whole family fell ill with Covid-19, including Aigars himself – an athlete, a cyclist, a man who in Kuldīga is known by many as the first coach of the well-known cyclist Roman Vainstein.

“From whom? Where? This is a question we can’t answer. We even send food home. Work – I walk, I try to move, I play sports. We don’t even know,” Aigars tells the program.

Dad and his mother were old, and my mother had several other diseases. “Mother was the first. Temperature. We did not understand. We thought – the same way. Was at the bottom of the disease, begins with the temperature, then again to the father, passed. Then we decided to take a test. We understood – there is,” says Aigars.

The parents were taken to the hospital in Ventspils: “My father called, said that he was very good, warm, nice staff. He was satisfied.

Both parents were in the same ward at the North Kurzeme Regional Hospital in Ventspils. Unlike the stories of other patients ‘experiences, Aigars’ parents did not complain about the care: “We were not present. As far as the doctors were talking, the mother was at a temperature of 40. The father said that the mother was really ill.”

Aigars’ parents left one day apart. The death certificate shows that both have Covid-19 as the direct cause of death. For dad – with bilateral pneumonia.

The deaths of the two are not separated even by the day. Mom died on Friday at midnight, Dad on Saturday shortly after midnight.

“He is cruel – this virus,” says Aigars.

It’s hard for him to understand the many skeptics who don’t believe in Covid-19: “Then you could already say the ground is flat. Really. Really don’t believe it? People are so much in the hospital compared to the flu.”

Aigars does not read comments on the Internet: “Skeptics to read. Feed themselves, get satisfaction, write that it is not true, it is probably useless. You will not teach those at that level.”
