60-100 HIV/AIDS cases are increasing every year in Gunungkidul

Gunungkidul health bureau chief Dewi Irawaty said the development of HIV/AIDS cases tends to be on a slope. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t additions.

“Adding an average of 60-100 new cases each year,” Dewi said on Tuesday (6/12/2022).

So far Gunungkidul has only registered HIV/AIDS cases in 2006, and it is still ongoing, referring to the results of the tests conducted.

Cumulatively, Dewi continued, there were 856 HIV/AIDS cases, including 574 with HIV and 282 with AIDS, in which a number of patients reportedly died.

“Most of the sufferers are between the ages of 20 and 50 and are scattered throughout the city,” he said.

According to Dewi, screening for HIV/AIDS cases continues to be carried out in community groups and places at risk, such as entertainment venues, tourism and groups of pregnant women.
