6 Changes You Can Make to Get Started with Healthy Eating

Another way you can start eating healthier is to think about what’s on your plate. There are certain foods that should play a big role in your diet at every meal, explains registered dietitian Lisa DeFazio.

“Fruits and vegetables should form the basis of your diet; half your plate should be vegetables,” she says.

Along with one serving of fruit at each meal, DeFazio recommends eating lean protein on your plate. To get that protein at breakfast, take 28 grams of nut butter, turkey, cottage cheese, or eggs. Protein should be about a quarter of your plate at lunch and dinner, or about 85 grams of skinless chicken or fish breast.

4. Try volume food

Looking for a way to eat healthy that doesn’t involve calorie counting or a restrictive mindset? If so, then eating ‘volume’ might be for you, as Best notes.

“Eating ‘volume’ is an exciting and relatively new concept for eating a balanced, nutrient-dense, low-calorie diet without compromising hunger,” he says.

“Essentially, consumers are eating large amounts of food with a low calorie density.”

In fact, it has helped Best on his personal healthy eating journey, as it helped him achieve his desired weight and improve his overall well-being. This approach has also been named one of the best diets for 2022.
