59 people in Spain infected with monkeypox

Madrid

Authority Spanish detected there were 59 cases of monkeypox. Vaccines and antiviral drugs are prepared to stem the spread of monkeypox.

Reported AFP59 people tested positive for monkeypox through a PCR test. 20 of them were confirmed positive for monkeypox through genome sequencing, said Health Secretary Carolina Darias.

Spain is still trying to get the Imvanex vaccine and the Tecovirimat antiviral. The procurement of vaccines and drugs is through a joint procurement scheme of the European Union (EU).

The European Union Health Emergency Response Authority “will make the smallpox vaccine available to member states” Darias said. Vaccine doses will be distributed fairly across the country.

From a number of reports it is stated that vaccination is 85% effective in preventing monkeypox.
