Intense negotiations are now underway in Stockholm between the airline and its pilots, who are threatening a major strike from Saturday.

VG has checked which SAS flights will go to and from Norwegian airports in the next few days – and then searched for flight numbers on SAS.no.

A total of 571 of 944 flights on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday are marked “probably canceled if the strike occurs”.

In that case, it means cancellation of 60 percent of the flights:

– Hoping for a solution

Both Norwegian and Swedish brokers are present in Stockholm to assist with the negotiations. There has been little information from the parties today, but it has been interpreted as a positive signal that it both Thursday and Friday have been in direct talks.

SAS will not comment on the status of the negotiations.

– We hope for a solution, then it will be informed continuously. If a flight is delayed or canceled, we will inform passengers via text message, says press manager Tonje Sund in SAS Norway.

The leader of the Norwegian SAS pilots’ association was aware on Thursday that they are willing to let the company go bankrupt, because they believe it is about such important questions of principle. SAS’s communications director Karin Nyman hit the unions hard on Friday night – and accused them «to hold customers hostage».

– As long as they negotiate, one must say that there is hope, says aircraft analyst Hans Jørgen Elnæs.

The negotiations are complex, but central is the establishment of two new subsidiaries: SAS Link and SAS Connect. There is a conflict about the restructuring itself, the conditions for the pilots in the various companies and the re-employment of the pilots who were dismissed during the pandemic.

SAS says they want to create a profitable and sustainable airline for the future, while the pilots believe they must fight for fundamental rights.

– There have been some signals that they are negotiating without broker assistance, and that is a good thing. But there are heavy elements they have to agree on now. I think both parties understand how serious this is for SAS, says Elnæs.
