539 firefighters have already been tested at covid-19

Within the scope of the regional strategy for the prevention and containment of covid-19 in Madeira, tests are currently taking place with professionals in the area of ​​civil protection in the Region. To date, 539 firefighters have been tested.

“To date, 539 firefighters assigned to the fire brigades of Porto Santo, Sapadores do Funchal, Municipalities of Santa Cruz and Machico, Volunteers from Ribeira Brava and Ponta do Sol, Santana and the elements of Madeiran volunteers have been tested”, reveals the Regional Secretariat for Health and Civil Protection through a press release.

He adds that by the end of the week, firefighters assigned to the São Vicente and Porto Moniz fire departments, Câmara de Lobos and Calheta will be tested. Initially, the latter were scheduled for the 6th and 7th of June, but for logistical reasons they were reprogrammed for the 10th and 11th of June.

Within this professional group, elements assigned to the Portuguese Red Cross regional delegation and elements of the Regional Medical Emergency Service (SEMER) will also be tested at covid-19.

In total, the Regional Secretariat for Health and Civil Protection, with this professional group alone, estimates more than 800 tests for the covid-19.

According to SESARAM, the objective is to test all firefighters at covid-19 until the start of the Operational Program for Fighting Forest Fires (POCIF), on June 15, 2020.

Screening with professionals in the field of civil protection began on the 2nd of June and will run until the 12th of June.
