5 Ways to Increase the Chances of Pregnancy for Women with PCOS

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The ovaries produce and release eggs each month as part of the normal menstrual cycle. However, when a woman suffers from polycystic ovary syndrome or polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), the egg may not develop properly or may not be released during ovulation thereby affecting fertility.

PCOS is caused by an imbalance hormone, where levels of masculine hormones (androgens) become excessive and cysts appear in the ovaries. This condition is usually experienced since adolescence.

Celebrating September as PCOS awareness month, here are five tips to improve fertility women who suffer from the disorder, which was reported by the Times of India, Sunday, September 19, 2021.

1. Fertility drugs

Fertility drugs help regulate and stimulate ovulation. These drugs help increase ovulation in the same way natural hormones such as follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone do. Women who ovulate regularly also need to use this drug if they want to stimulate better or extra eggs.

2. Maintain a healthy weight

Maintaining a healthy weight increases the chances of getting pregnant and reduces other pregnancy-related risks. The ideal BMI for pregnancy is between 18.5 and 24.9. Higher than that means a smaller chance of getting pregnant. A BMI of 35 and above increases the risk of pre-eclampsia, which is a dangerous condition for both mother and baby. An even higher BMI can lead to blood clots, prolonged labor, miscarriage, premature birth, and diabetes during pregnancy.

3. Manage stress

Unmanaged stress can have a negative impact on women who are trying to conceive. Try to meditate, listen to songs, do yoga, go for a walk and spend time with loved ones to relieve stress to increase fertility.

4. Assisted reproductive technology

Women with PCOS usually have a variety of health problems ranging from being overweight to facial hair and hyperinsulinemia, which can complicate the fertilization process. Women should be thoroughly evaluated for endometrial neoplasia, hyperinsulinemia and other health problems before undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) or IVF.

5. Balanced diet

A balanced diet and avoiding junk food is important for people with PCOS. Eat foods rich in zinc, iron, fiber, carbohydrates, and good fats like lentils and beans. Avoid sugary foods and eat more unsaturated foods like avocados, nuts, seeds and oily fish.
