Karipur ∙ Police arrested 5 people including the passenger who arrived at Kozhikode airport with the gold and the gang members who came to steal the gold with the passenger’s knowledge. Natuvil A. Muhammad Anees (19) by Kannur Thalipparam from Dubai, KV Nias (26) from Kannur Dharmadam from Dubai, MV Girish (31) from Kannur Natuvil, K. Prasad (43) from Thalassery Kathirur, Kiran from Thalassery (28) were arrested.
CI P. Shibu said four others had reached the airport with Anees’s acquaintance to steal the gold Anees had brought for someone else. Police recovered 54 grams of gold and two phones worth Rs.1.5 lakh from Anis.
The plan was to steal the gold before delivering it to the people who sent it. Following a tip received by the district police chief, Karipur police arrested the five people near the airport gate. All 5 people who were produced at the Mancheri court were indicted.

Ashkar Ali, originally from Wayanad, surrendered before the Kozhikode Preventive Customs. Ashkar Ali was produced in the court of Mancheri and indicted. The smuggling of gold was arrested on 15 September. KV airline employees Sajid Rahman and Samil Khais were arrested. The attempt was to smuggle 4.9 kg of gold worth Rs 2.25 crore.
The bag containing the gold belonged to Ashkar Ali, a native of Wayanad.
