A number of stages can be a home choice Indonesian national from AFF Cup 2022 after Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) cannot be used.
The GBK cannot be used as the home of the Indonesian national team in the 2022 AFF Cup because it is in the process of rejuvenating the grass until December 2022. After that, the GBK is ready to be the venue for the 2023 U-20 World Cup.
The policy is that any stadium that will be used for the 2023 U20 World Cup cannot be used for other activities. This is a FIFA requirement that the government has accepted.
However, a number of other stadiums in Indonesia could be an option as the home of the national team in the 2022 AFF Cup.
Here are five stadiums that may be PSSI’s choice for the home of the Indonesian national team in the 2022 AFF Cup starting December 20.
1. Jakarta International Stadium (JIS)
JIS is currently the largest capacity stadium in Indonesia. The stadium, which is located in northern Jakarta, has been tested several times during the Covid-19 pandemic.
It’s just that PSSI had stated that JIS was not feasible for organizing international matches with a large number of people. This is because there are some things that are still being logged.
PSSI’s statement on JIS, which was found not to have met a number of requirements, caused a stir. However, the DKI Jakarta provincial government is determined to improve the federation’s record. With this, there is a possibility that JIS could be used by the Indonesian national team in the 2022 AFF Cup.
2. Pakansari Cibinong Stadium
One of the main stages chosen by PSSI when GBK could not be used was Pakansari. This is because the Bogor Regency stadium is suitable for international matches.
It’s just that the condition of the grass and drainage is still a record. When it rains a lot, some sides of the field are flooded because the irrigation system is not optimal. This is a drop in quality compared to the 2018 Asian Games.
The last time the Pakansari stadium was used by the Indonesian national team was in a test match against Curacao. With these conditions, the stadium with a capacity of 30,000 people will probably be the main choice.
