44 coronavirus detected in 44 US citizens with Diamond Princess liner – Society

A new coronavirus (2019-nCoV) was detected in 44 U.S. citizens traveling on a Diamond Princess cruise ship, which is quarantined in the port of the Japanese city of Yokohama. This was reported on Sunday by the newspaper. The washington post with reference to the American virologist, director of the National Institute of Allergic and Infectious Diseases Anthony Fauci. Fauci is part of a special group created by the head of the White House, Donald Trump, to combat the spread of the disease.

“The 44 US citizens who traveled aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship are infected,” he said. There were about 400 Americans on board.

The United States began the evacuation of its citizens from the ship.

The ship left Yokohama on January 20 and returned on February 3. Among the passengers was a Chinese citizen who discovered a new coronavirus. He descended on January 25 in Hong Kong. By decision of the Japanese authorities, the cruise ship anchored near Yokohama to conduct a medical examination of everyone on board.

On board were about 3.7 thousand passengers and crew from 50 countries, including Russia. Currently, 355 cases of coronavirus infection on Diamond Princess are known. There are no Russians among the diseased.
