In the past 24 hours, 43 people have been admitted to the hospital because of the Covid-19, according to figures released Tuesday by the FPS Public Health. In addition, 35 people have been able to leave hospital services in the past 24 hours. A total of 2,230 patients with Covid-19 are currently hospitalized. Among them, 465 people are in intensive care (-13).
The number of new hospitalizations fell below 50 daily admissions on Monday. Their trend, that is to say the average of new admissions over the past seven days, seems to be declining again and has decreased by 7%, said the Institute of Public Health Sciensano. Since March 15, 13,732 patients have been discharged from hospital and declared cured.
There are also fewer people in intensive care. The trend decreases by 5% per day over the last three days. A total of 282 patients require respiratory assistance (-17).
Yesterday 330 new cases were reported. Among them, 148 patients live in Flanders, 155 in Wallonia and 25 in Brussels. The FPS Public Health does not have information concerning the place of residence of two people. The total number of confirmed cases is 53,779. Over the past three days, the downward trend in new infections seems to be picking up and has fallen again by 4%, says Sciensano. Even if the testing capacity has been increased, this data does not reflect the actual spread of the virus in the country because the entire population is not tested.
In addition, 65 deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours, which brings the total to 8,761 reported deaths. Of the 65 new deaths, 34 occurred in hospital and 31 in nursing and care home. Of these deaths which have occurred in the past 24 hours in a nursing home, 81% have been confirmed by a laboratory test. Sciensano is again observing a downward trend.
Of the 8,761 people who died, 48% died in hospital, 51% in a nursing home, 0.3% at home and 0.4% elsewhere. Hospital deaths are all confirmed cases. The deaths which took place in nursing homes concern confirmed cases (22%) and suspect cases (78%).
In the past 24 hours, 10,824 tests have been reported, of which 6,523 were performed by clinical laboratories and 4,301 by the national testing platform. The total number of tests carried out was 595,531.
