40,000 Pound Bomb Detonated Near US Aircraft Carrier Triggers Earthquake

WASHINGTON – The United States (US) Navy has released a video showing a 40,000 pound bomb being detonated near aircraft carrier state-of-the-art for shock tests. This explosion also triggered a magnitude 3.9 earthquake and the shaking was felt up to 100 miles away.

This test is to find out how strong the ship is facing shocks as well as a simulation for actual combat conditions.

The bomb was detonated near the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R Ford (CVN-78) off the US East Coast. The experimental explosion that occurred on Friday last week.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) measured the seismic event approximately 100 miles off the coast of Ponce Inlet, a town south of Daytona Beach.

The explosion attracted unwanted attention, although the US Navy said it was completely safe.
