40 dissertations awarded the Award of Excellence

Vienna (OTS) From prehistory to population genetics, from music education to industrial mathematics: the research areas of the award-winning dissertations are diverse. Science Minister Heinz Faßmann awarded 40 works with the Award of Excellence.

“The dissertations show an overwhelming panorama of academic university research in Austria,” said Faßmann. “As science minister, it is a particular pleasure for me to bring the best work to the front. I warmly congratulate all of the award winners and wish them all continued success. “

The Award of Excellence is endowed with 3,000 euros. Due to the corona pandemic, Minister Faßmann sent a digital message of greeting to the award winners. In addition to the work itself, he also praised the “flexibility and resilience that the scientists have completed their dissertations in these challenging times.”

Topics of the dissertations ranged from “Spectral Analysis of Infinite Quantum Graphs” to “Strategies for Estimating the Risk of Thrombosis in Cancer Diseases” to the work “The new potential of a recorder in the 21st century”.

The Award of Ecxellence is a state award that is financed from student funding. Since 2008, the 40 best dissertations of the past academic year have been awarded. The proposals for this come from the universities.
