Jakarta

The names of 4 Indonesians are also included in the list of the richest people in the world released by the Bloomberg Billionaire Index. The names of these four people are Indonesian conglomerates who have remained in the seat of the richest people in the country for many years.

The four people include Budi Hartono and Michael Hartono, Tan Siok Tjien, and Sri Prakash Lohia. Judging from the background of their success, Budi Harton, Michael Hartono, and Tan Siok Tjien both come from the largest cigarette industry in Indonesia. Meanwhile, Sri Prakash Lohia is a successful entrepreneur from the textile and petrochemical industry.

Budi Hartono or Robert Budi Hartono is the younger brother of Michael Bambang Hartono. Both of them have occupied the seats of the richest people number 1 and 2 in Indonesia for 12 years.

Budi is noted to have a net worth of up to US $ 12.7 billion or around Rp.190.2 trillion (exchange rate of Rp.14,982). He is on the list of the number one richest people in Indonesia, and the 139th position of the Bloomberg version of the world’s richest people. Meanwhile, his older brother occupies seat number 2 of the richest person in Indonesia, and 150 in the world. His wealth reaches US $ 11.8 billion or around Rp. 176.7 trillion.

The two, known as the Hartono brothers, are the owners of PT Djarum or the Djarum Group, a conglomerate that works on many lines of business in various fields.

After the Asian financial crisis in 1998, the Hartono brothers looked at other business opportunities by buying a portion of the shares of Bank Central Asia (BCA) together with the Lippo Group at that time.

Apart from owning the Djarum Group and the largest stake in BCA, the Hartono brothers also penetrated other sectors such as electronic equipment, property, plantations, to information technology and online games.

They created an electronic product brand called Polytron, which was mistaken for a foreign brand, not a local one. Then, Michael and Budi also built an e-Commerce office so that they could follow the increasing trend of online business.
