Here are some facts about the brutal stabbing at Nice:
1. The attack took place in the morning
On Thursday (29/10) at 8:29 a.m. French time, a man armed with a knife began attacking people praying inside the Notre-Dame Basilica church in the heart of Nice.
French anti-terror prosecutor Jean-Francois Ricard told a press conference that the attacker had a copy of the Koran and three knives with him.
In nearly half an hour of chaos at the Notre-Dame basilica, attackers used a 30 cm knife to slit the throat of a 60-year-old grandmother inside the church. The victim died at the scene.
The body of a man, a 55-year-old church attendant, was found nearby in the church, his throat also slit.
Another woman who was attacked, who fled from the church to a nearby restaurant, died shortly thereafter from multiple knife wounds.
The killer was shot and disabled by police who arrived quickly at the scene. Even when he was arrested, the man continued to shout “Allah Akbar” until he was shot by the police and rushed to the hospital.
