A 59-year-old man in Florida has been remanded in custody after Carla Lowe (21) was found dead on November 13, 1983. New technology from a company in the UK has managed to identify a fingerprint from the crime scene, and thus linked the man to the murder, reports NBC News.
Lowe was waiting for the train when she was brutally abused and run over at Dalray Beach in Florida 38 years ago.
Several of her items were removed from the scene, but according to NBC, the motive for the crime is still unknown.
Taken over 20 times
The same day as the murder happened, the 59-year-old was arrested for car theft and burglary, writes the news agency AP.
He has been arrested more than 20 times in Florida, both for violence against a public official, armed robbery and distribution of heroin.
Mother’s secret revealed after 40 years
– The police took an early interest in the 59-year-old, Todd Clancy from the Delray Beach police cold case group said at a press conference on Tuesday this week.
But they never managed to link him to the murder.
– It was the technological development that led to the arrest. We were unable to obtain the fingerprint in the traditional way.
According to NBC, the police will not say what kind of object they have found the fingerprint on.
Forever grateful
Lowe’s sister tells the newspaper South Florida SunSentinel that they are eternally grateful to the police investigators who may now have revealed the killer.
