36 Killed After Flu Vaccine, South Korean Prime Minister Asked Cases to be Investigated

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

South Korean Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun has called for a thorough investigation into his 36 citizens who allegedly died after receiving the flu vaccine being carried out by the country.

As of Friday (23/10) yesterday, the number of South Korean citizens who died after receiving the flu vaccine had increased by 13 people, bringing the total number of citizens who died currently to 36 people.

From that number, it is known that one of the residents who died was 17 years old.

As reported by CNN, Se-Kyun indeed requested that further investigations be carried out to find out the exact cause of death as well as answer public anxiety.

However, in a press release from the Ministry of Health, it was stated that the government did not stop the vaccine campaign.

On the other hand, the South Korean Medical Association has also urged the government to stop the vaccination program for one week until the cause of death for the citizen is found.

In a statement, the Korean Vaccine Society also stressed the importance of flu vaccines, especially “for children, the elderly and patients with chronic diseases and a compromised immune system.”

The organization cited concerns about the possible spread of flu during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, the South Korean Disease Control and Prevention Agency has also decided not to suspend flu vaccinations against South Koreans, although currently at least 36 people have died after receiving flu vaccinations.

As reported by CNN, the committee of vaccination experts will hold a meeting on Saturday (24/10) morning local time to review additional data.

The South Korean Disease Control and Prevention Agency itself held a meeting the day before, on Friday after there was a tight scrutiny of the vaccination efforts that led to the death of a number of people carried out by experts and politicians.

South Korean health officials also claim to have found no direct link between flu vaccinations and the spate of deaths of its citizens.

Previously it was reported that as many as 14 million people had received flu vaccinations as of Friday. Of these, 9.4 million people are children, the elderly and pregnant women.

Professor from the National Cancer Center in South Korea Ki Moran said the flu vaccine can indeed have certain side effects.

However, serious side effects can occur in 1 in 10 million people who have been given the vaccine.
