“35% more GGD tests!” – The Daily Standard

Opinion poll Maurice de Hond foresees another large increase in the number of detected corona cases this afternoon, when RIVM publishes their figures from the past week. It is no reason to panic, according to the geographer who has been trained as a corona expert, because more tests have been carried out in the past week.

Today, RIVM will again publish the figures for the past week: how many new cases of coronation in the Netherlands, how many hospital admissions, IC admissions and ultimately deaths. In view of the reports from the past week, there is actually one conclusion to be drawn: we will see an increase in the number of new cases compared to last week.

However, it is very important not to panic about this, argues Maurice de Hond this morning. The higher figure can easily be explained by the higher volume tests that the GGDs had taken over the past seven days. The dog:

“Before the panic breaks out again this afternoon (or is being created) when the new weekly figures of RIVM are announced:
If the Volkskrant’s figure of 111,000 is correct, the GGD conducted approximately 35% more tests last week than the week before. ”

In an accompanying image, De Hond shows how this vicious circle works: panic arises at a certain point, after which it is demanded to take more tests in people with symptoms. This in turn leads to a higher number of positively tested people, after which panic breaks out again. After that, an even stronger need to test arises, and the circle goes around again.

So we have to do everything “in perspective”De Hond also argued last week. Because even though the numbers rose, it was still less than it was at the beginning of June.
