33 new corona patients in hospital, almost three times as many as Friday | NOW

In the past 24 hours, 33 new corona patients have been admitted to hospitals, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) reports Saturday. On Friday there were twelve more. A total of 327 COVID-19 patients are now in the hospital.

The RIVM also reports that 1,887 new infections were reported, slightly less than Friday. Then for the fourth day in a row, a new day record of 1974 positive tests was reported. Another two people have died of the disease, according to the new figures from Saturday.

Ernst Kuipers of the National Network Acute Care adds that 10 percent more COVID-19 patients are admitted to Dutch hospitals every day in the past week.

Especially at hospitals in the west of the Netherlands, the increase causes “considerable crowds”. This increases because patients come in with complaints that may be caused by the corona virus. These individuals should be isolated while waiting for a corona test result.

The National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS) reports Saturday that there are currently 67 COVID-19 patients in intensive care, nine more than Friday.

Regional measures announced in the west of the Netherlands

Prime Minister Mark Rutte said in a press conference on Friday that the virus is making a comeback. Minister Hugo de Jonge of Public Health spoke of a second wave.

Because of this ‘comeback’, Rutte and De Jonge announced that new ones from 6 PM on Sunday evening measures will cover the regions of Amsterdam-Amstelland, Rotterdam-Rijnmond, Haaglanden, Utrecht, Kennemerland and Hollands Midden.

For example, the catering industry in these regions must be closed sooner and meetings are limited to fifty people. Additional measures have been announced within the regions.
