As a result, the number of new confirmed cases decreased slightly compared to the previous day, with the test numbers remaining the same, as the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) further announced. As of Friday, 346 new infections were reported. At least 3,257 people were hospitalized for laboratory-confirmed Covid-19 disease.
The deaths increased to 1345 by Saturday noon, according to the Keystone-SDA news agency. The canton of Vaud has been at the top since Friday with 281 deaths, ahead of Ticino with 277 deaths. In proportion to the population, however, the canton of Geneva has the most fatalities.
Keystone-SDA analyzes the official data available on the cantons’ websites and updates them twice a day, at noon and in the evening. According to this census, Obwalden and Appenzell-Innerrhoden are the only cantons without casualties.
Over 200,000 tests
The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) reported the death toll at 1111, 52 more than on Friday. In its statements, the Office refers to the reports that the laboratories and doctors had sent up to Thursday morning as part of the reporting obligation. The BAG went on to say that the number could therefore differ from the cantons’ numbers.
Switzerland continues to have one of the highest infection rates in Europe. On Friday, extrapolated to 100,000 inhabitants, 319 people were affected by Covid-19. In total, more than 216,400 people have been tested for the corona virus in Switzerland, 15 percent of the tests were positive.
