Destination of arms
Authorities have apprehended two individuals suspected of involvement in an unlicensed firearm trafficking syndicate, seizing 30 9mm firearms. Investigations indicate these weapons were intended for distribution in the Western Cape, with the arrested suspects allegedly planning to transport them.
the duo has been linked to criminal activities in both Gauteng and the Western Cape. They are currently in custody and face multiple charges, including illegal possession and trafficking of firearms. Law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigations to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate.
The City of Cape Town has experienced a meaningful increase in gun violence, with over 20 fatalities attributed to shootings in the past month.
Major breakthrough
In a separate development, police have made a significant arrest in connection with the murder of Sindiso Magaqa, taking into custody the former municipal manager of the Umzimkhulu Local Municipality. the 55-year-old suspect was re-arrested in Malvern, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
This individual was previously arrested in 2018 along with other suspects, including the late mayor of the Umzimkhulu Local Municipality, a businessman, two former police officers, and a hitman. The former municipal manager is scheduled to appear in the Umzimkhulu Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, to face a murder charge.
