30 police officers injured after another protest in North Macedonia

At least 30 police officers were injured this evening during the protest in front of the parliament in the Macedonian capital Skopje, reported the MKD. Demonstrators were also reported detained.

Despite the peaceful start of the protest, tensions have escalated again as during Monday’s demonstrationwhen police officers were also injured.

There have been clashes between protesters and the police and on Tuesday, the Ministry of the Interior confirmed.

Demonstrators threw Molotov cocktails, stones, bottles, drills are the security fence and have reached the police cordon in front of the entrance to the parliament.

But the police dispersed the protesters outside the main entrance and pushed them onto the street in front of the parliament building.

The protest was stopped.

The protests started on July 2, 2022, with the aim of forcing the government of North Macedonia to reject the European Union’s offer to start accession negotiations for Macedonia to the EU. According to the organizers, the acceptance of the proposal and the negotiation framework in this form will lead to the Bulgarianization of the country.

The protest against the EU in Skopje is openly supported by the opposition parties VMRO-DPMNE and Left.
